SONORA’s Unplugged Sessions EP grew out of acoustic
gigs that the band had been doing in and around their
native Vienna. Fans began requesting recordings of the sound they
were hearing. The five tracks include
re-imaginings of familiar tunes from their previous release Days of
Conquer. “10am”, “Comfort Grey” and
“Naked Upside Down” are each given a fresh, funkified approach. Two
new songs are also presented
- the pulsating, reggae-flavored “Dreams of Gold” and the quiet,
meditative “No Name”.
Unplugged Sessions introduces and showcases the intricate bass work
of newest band member
Hartwig Krebitz. Restrained percussion from Florian Strobl joins
Oliver Vendl’s and Sabine Litschka’s
acoustic guitars to adorn Litschka’s sometimes pummeling, sometimes
caressing vocals in a way
that allows the songs to shine.
A composition’s ability to stand up to
re-interpretation and to “work” in its most stripped-down form
is the measure of its strength. This strength is evident in
abundance on Unplugged Sessions.
